to find out that the Volvo XC models do NOT come with AWD standard. Just like when I learned the Suzuki SX4 did not have standard AWD. I mean it has fucking X and fucking 4 in its name. Those are automotive code for AWD.

I was surprised some time ago when I discovered that most (if any?) USDM SUV's don't come with 4WD standard...

"I remember: back in the day, Volvos were rear wheel drive, weighed less than 3000 lbs and were the safest cars on the road!"

I don't expect legit SUVs that are truck based to be 4wd standard since trucks are 2wd standard. My beef with the Suzuki is the misleading name, and the Volvo XC (cross country), especially the XC70 which specifically distinguishes itself from the V70 with the ride height and cladding, try to project some "off pavement" image.

I totally agree on the XC70 and Suzuki. I'm just used to all SUV's and trucks being 4WD as nearly all sold in the UK are this way even though they do sell a small number of 2wd pickups. So it was quite a shock to see it's far less common in a place i'd expect it to be far more common. I am appalled there is an option to get the Land Rover Freelander as FWD only.
To me it's like; so you're saying I can't easily get a manual, diesel, 4WD??!?! Really makes importing a US truck or SUV less appealing :(

Is "Standard" even relevant in the modern era?
